The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) has announced a $1 million grant to the Wyoming County Healthcare Center. This funding aims to enhance internet access in the community, as confirmed by Sen. Lisa Baker (R-20).
Senator Baker commented on the initiative, stating, "The Wyoming County Healthcare Center project provides the access and outreach indispensable to modern health care in small communities and rural areas. The plan for a hub, broadband expansion and collaborative outreach is well-designed." She added that "this sizable state funding help is essential to getting the services up and running as quickly as possible. In terms of improving the quality of life, this is a cornerstone effort. It is very complementary to the progress being made locally on jobs and environmental protection."
This grant comes from the federally supported Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program and is part of a larger $45 million initiative aimed at enhancing high-speed broadband access for essential services such as work, education, and health monitoring through community anchor institutions.
The investment targets improvements in internet access across schools, libraries, recreation centers, and nonprofit organizations to ensure these facilities remain vital public resources.
To maintain accountability and transparency, PBDA mandates grantees submit quarterly and annual reports detailing project progress and adherence to federal standards. A final report will be required within three months after project completion to assess impact, sustainability efforts, and equity considerations. The release of the final 10% of funding depends on a thorough review of this report.
This investment aligns with Pennsylvania's broader mission to fortify community infrastructure and create accessible public spaces crucial for work, education, and health needs.
