Twenty-nine fire and emergency medical services (EMS) companies in the 116th Legislative District have been awarded over $446,000 in funding. This support comes from the 2024-25 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, as announced by Rep. Dane Watro.
"We deeply appreciate the tireless efforts and commitment of our first responders, whose exceptional work keeps communities throughout the 116th District safe," said Watro. He noted that many companies face financial challenges, making this state initiative a crucial source of funding.
Senator Argall expressed gratitude for the awards: "I'm thankful so many local fire and EMS companies were awarded these highly competitive funds. These grants are well-deserved and will help our brave first responders with their critically important and dangerous jobs."
The funding supports projects such as construction or renovation of facilities, equipment purchase or repair, training, or debt reduction. The program is funded by slot machine gaming proceeds rather than General Fund tax revenue.
In Luzerne County, several departments received grants including the Borough of West Hazleton Fire Department ($13,309) and Hazleton City Fire Department ($16,322). In Schuylkill County, recipients included McAdoo Fire Company Inc. ($39,892) and Shenandoah Community Ambulance Association ($45,000).
The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency administers the program with applications processed through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). All qualifying applicants receive funding upon filing a grant agreement with OSFC.
