State Representative Dane Watro | Pennsylvania 116th Legislative District
Rep. Dane Watro, representing Luzerne and Schuylkill counties, has been appointed as the Republican chair of the Subcommittee on Higher Education within the Pennsylvania House of Representatives' Education Committee for the 2025-26 Legislative Session.
"I am honored to have been chosen by Republican Education Committee Chairman Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) to serve in a leadership capacity with this important subcommittee," said Watro. "I look forward to working with my colleagues on reviewing and shaping policies related to the Commonwealth’s colleges and universities."
The subcommittee's responsibilities include examining bills related to public and private universities, community colleges, and other postsecondary institutions. Key issues addressed by the subcommittee are tuition, student debt, financial aid, and campus safety. It also collaborates with educational institutions, advocates for state education initiatives, and works towards developing policies that enhance access to quality higher education in Pennsylvania. The overarching goal is to ensure a robust and affordable higher education system benefiting both students and the workforce.
Apart from his role on the Education Committee, Watro is also involved in several other committees: Insurance, Local Government, Professional Licensure, Veterans Affairs, and Emergency Preparedness.
