Rep. Alec Ryncavage, along with Senators Lisa Baker and Lynda Schlegel Culver, have announced the allocation of over $2.9 million in grants to school districts and municipalities within Luzerne County. The funding comes from Local Share Account (LSA) grants and Public School Facility Improvement grants provided by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
“These grant dollars mark a crucial advancement, as funding is secured to finish long-standing projects like the Glen Lyon Streetscape and to kick off new initiatives, including the Larksville Veteran’s Memorial Park,” Ryncavage stated. He emphasized that the funds are aimed at both completing existing projects and laying groundwork for future community development.
The awarded municipalities include Fairview Township, which will receive $242,000 to replace Dale Drive Bridge and an additional $300,000 for expanding its municipal and police building. Larksville Borough has been allocated $75,142 for establishing a new Veteran’s Memorial Park. Crestwood Industrial Park is set to receive $750,000 for roadway improvements on Oak Hill Road. Newport Township will obtain $261,191 for sidewalk enhancements along Glen Lyon.
In terms of educational infrastructure, Crestwood School District is granted $1.3 million dedicated to a roof replacement project at Fairview Elementary School.
Ryncavage addressed the challenges posed by inflation in escalating project costs: “As inflation continues to drive up costs making these projects unaffordable for our municipalities – even for the projects that were already in the works – I am committed to collaborating with our local officials to ensure we get these projects over the finish line for our residents.”
