State Senator Lisa Baker | Pennsylvania 20th District
Senator Lisa Baker has been appointed to several important committees for the 2025-26 legislative session. She will chair the Judiciary Committee and serve as vice chair of the Banking and Insurance Committee. Additionally, she will be a member of the Communications and Technology, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees.
“There is a real advantage in once again chairing the consequential Senate Judiciary Committee for the new session,” Baker stated. “Our agenda will pick up on the priority issues from last session, including increased public safety measures, additional protections for vulnerable populations, and further criminal and juvenile justice reforms.”
Baker has prior experience serving on these committees, which informs her understanding of their challenges. “Given the disastrous weather events afflicting so many states, we must ensure emergency preparedness is sufficiently funded and commercial and residential insurance coverage remains available at affordable cost,” she emphasized. “There is still attention and investment needed to make certain that small communities and rural areas have access to modern technology at affordable cost in their homes, schools, workplaces, health facilities and emergency response locations. And our work is never done in our mission to fulfill the promises we made to all those who served in our military.”
The committees are tasked with legislative oversight and crafting bills relevant to their focus areas. The Judiciary Committee addresses issues within Pennsylvania’s criminal justice system, aiming to enhance justice, fairness, and protection of fundamental rights. The Banking and Insurance Committee reviews legislation to ensure sound practices among financial institutions while promoting a competitive marketplace. The Communications and Technology Committee works on improving high-speed internet access, safeguarding personal information within state government, and enhancing technological efficiency statewide. Lastly, the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee oversees legislation concerning fire services, EMS, emergency management, as well as matters affecting military personnel and veterans.
“These committees play a vital role in shaping policies that impact Pennsylvanians’ lives every day,” Baker remarked. “Whether it’s enhancing justice in our courts, ensuring the stability of our financial institutions, expanding access to reliable internet or supporting our veterans and first responders, these are issues that touch every corner of the 20th District. I am committed to working diligently to address these priorities and make meaningful progress for the people of Pennsylvania.”
