State Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) is leading a group of seven other state House Republicans in introducing a series of bills aimed at tackling energy affordability in Pennsylvania. The legislation proposed by Kaufer seeks to repurpose funds from Act 129 of 2008 to redirect unused dollars for energy efficiency and conservation programs. This move is intended to alleviate the burden of high energy costs on consumers across the state.

"Despite having abundant energy resources right here in Pennsylvania, our families and businesses pay too much to heat their homes and turn the lights on. We must do more to lower out-of-pocket costs consumers spend on energy as they work to make ends meet, and that is what my legislation would do," said Kaufer.

The bill aims to have the repurposed funds flow back to ratepayers as a negative surcharge, providing direct relief to energy consumers. Kaufer expressed his commitment to collaborating with fellow lawmakers to implement practical measures that will reduce energy expenses for Pennsylvanians.

"I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance real ways to save on energy costs as we look to make it more affordable to live and work in Pennsylvania," Kaufer stated.

The package of bills includes various initiatives, such as establishing an independent energy advocate, extending the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, reviving closed energy production facilities, and assessing the impact of regulations on the affordability of energy for vulnerable communities.

Kaufer's proactive stance on energy cost reduction reflects his dedication to enhancing the economic well-being of Pennsylvania residents and businesses. The proposed measures signal a concerted effort to address the pressing issue of energy affordability in the state.
