HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne), Sen. Lisa Baker (R-Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming) and Sen. Marty Flynn (R-Lackawanna and Luzerne) have announced that significant grants will be allocated to three school districts in Pennsylvania for enhancing safety measures and promoting a positive educational experience.
The Wyoming Area, Wyoming Valley West, and Greater Nanticoke Area school districts are set to receive substantial grants totaling over $2 million. Rep. Kaufer expressed, "No child should go to school fearing for their safety," emphasizing the importance of creating secure learning environments for students.
Sen. Baker highlighted the urgency of upgrading school safety and security in the wake of tragic events, stating, "This becomes a particular challenge for smaller districts when they must keep up with changes in various areas. These state grants are really helpful in that regard."
Echoing the sentiment of prioritizing student well-being, Sen. Flynn remarked, "This grant underscores our commitment to creating safe and healthy learning environments for our children. It's a testament to the efforts of our community and legislative partners in prioritizing the well-being of our youth."
The funding, awarded through the federal Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) Stronger Connections Grant (SCG), aims to promote the overall well-being of students and staff, enhance family and community engagement, and implement equitable policies and practices.
These grants signify a collective effort to ensure the safety and security of students in public schools, reflecting a commitment to fostering positive educational experiences and building safer communities for generations to come."
