More than $382,000 in grants have been distributed to 28 fire and EMS companies within Pennsylvania's 119th Legislative District. This funding, part of the 2024-25 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, was announced by Representative Alec Ryncavage (R-Hanover Township, Luzerne County).

Representative Ryncavage commented, “This is great news for our dedicated first responders, who already do an amazing job protecting our communities. This funding will go a long way to help our brave men and women keep us safe.”

The grants are designated for various projects, such as the construction or renovation of fire or ambulance company facilities, equipment purchase or repair, training, and debt reduction. The program is funded by revenues from slot machine gaming, not from General Fund tax revenue, and was established by the General Assembly.

The grants awarded include various amounts to each company, such as $15,000 to both the Hanover Township Community Ambulance Association Inc. and the Larksville Community Ambulance.

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency administers the grant program, while the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC) handles the application process. Companies that apply and satisfy OSFC's criteria receive funding after filing an agreement.

The 119th Legislative District, represented by Ryncavage, is located in Luzerne County. It encompasses the city of Nanticoke, several townships, and boroughs including Hanover, Newport, and Plymouth.
