Rep. Alec Ryncavage and Sen. Lisa Baker have announced a $125,000 grant for improvements to Ashley Borough Centennial Park. The funding is provided through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTRP).
"I am committed to investing in every corner of my community," Ryncavage stated. "Parks and green spaces are essential to our communities. Since 2018, Centennial Park has been a priority for the residents of Ashley Borough."
In 2024, Ryncavage and Baker advocated for an initial $95,000 for park improvements. With this year's additional funds, the total amount secured for the park reaches $220,000.
Ashley Borough plans to demolish and reconstruct parts of the park to enhance its amenities. Proposed updates include new drainage systems, rain gardens, playground areas with inclusive equipment, benches, picnic tables, fencing, landscaping, and basketball courts. These upgrades aim to make the park accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities.
"This funding is vital to the community effort to make the park more enjoyable and more accessible for every resident," Baker commented. "There is a great deal of planning and cooperation that goes into these projects. I want to commend and thank the local officials and residents who value the role of recreation and relaxation in the life of the community."
The investment is supported by funds from the Marcellus Legacy Fund from Pennsylvania's natural gas industry. The GTRP is funded by Act 13 of 2012 and seeks to improve parks, trails, and recreational spaces across Pennsylvania.
