Rep. Dane Watro of Luzerne and Schuylkill counties has announced ongoing outreach sessions for veterans residing in the 116th Legislative District. These sessions are conducted monthly at his Hazleton office and are free of charge, though appointments are necessary.

"I am pleased to be able to provide this assistance program through the American Legion to my fellow veterans and their family members," Watro stated. "They are encouraged to take advantage of this free service that can connect them with the benefits to which they are entitled or answer any questions they may have regarding veterans assistance programs."

The outreach program is held on the second Tuesday each month and every other month on the fourth Wednesday. On these days, William McGovern, an American Legion Department Service Officer, will meet with veterans or their dependents. Participation in the program does not require membership in the American Legion.

Veterans interested in scheduling an appointment should call 570-453-1344. The office is located at Suite 1 in downtown Hazleton.

The department service officer offers assistance with various issues, including compensation and pension claims, enrollment in VA health care, military personnel and medical records, education benefits, burial and survivor benefits, as well as state benefits.
