Rep. Mike Cabell, Sen. Lisa Baker, and Rep. Aaron Kaufer have announced they will co-host a Veterans Recognition Ceremony and Expo on November 4 at Misericordia University in Dallas. This event aims to honor veterans and provide them with information about services available to them.
"We honor them on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, but it is my firm belief we should be thanking our veterans every day for their service and sacrifice," said Cabell. "That’s why we are honored to be reviving this popular event, which was an annual tradition for my predecessor, Karen Boback."
Senator Baker emphasized the importance of recognizing veterans' contributions: "Our veterans selflessly served our country and deserve recognition and support. This expo will provide veterans with the opportunity to learn about helpful organizations and services available to them in the district."
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the university's Lemmond Theater, followed by an expo in Insalaco Hall where over 25 vendors will present information until 1 p.m. Light refreshments will be available.
Additional resources include counseling services from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Mobile Veterans Center located in the theater's parking lot, as well as a Drug Drop Box sponsored by the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office for safe disposal of medications.
Rep. Kaufer expressed gratitude towards veterans: "We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to all our veterans. While this event is a small gesture in comparison with the magnitude of their sacrifice, we will honor and thank those veterans who are with us and remember and pay tribute to those who are gone, and to those who made the ultimate sacrifice."
The events welcome all Luzerne County veterans along with one guest or spouse each. Registration is required by October 27 through Cabell's or Kaufer's office or via RepCabell.com/events.
