State Representative Aaron Kaufer will host a Community Shredding Day for residents of the 120th Legislative District on May 13. The event, aimed at protecting individuals from identity theft, will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the West Side Career and Technical Center in Pringle.
Kaufer emphasized the importance of shredding documents containing personal information as a preventive measure against identity theft. "Identity theft is a real threat for everyone, and shredding junk mail and other documents with personal and financial information is one important way people can protect themselves," he stated. "This event gives local families an opportunity to take action to protect themselves against identity theft."
Participants are requested to remain in their vehicles upon arrival, where they will be assisted by Kaufer or his staff. Each vehicle is limited to three boxes of paper for shredding.
In addition to document disposal, attendees can also dispose of faded flags, prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses, hearing aids, and working cell phones with chargers. Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce’s office will collect unused prescription medications.
The event is intended for residents only; businesses are not permitted. There is no fee; however, attendees are encouraged to bring canned food donations for local food pantries.
