Rep. Mike Cabell (R-Luzerne), Sen. Lisa Baker (R-20), and Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) have announced they will co-host a Veterans Recognition Ceremony and Expo on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Misericordia University in Dallas.

“The event we hosted last November was well attended, and we expect this year’s turnout to be similar,” said the lawmakers. “This is our small way to recognize the service and sacrifice of our local veterans. The event also offers an opportunity to learn about the various programs and services available to them in our area.”

The day will begin at 10 a.m. with a Veterans Recognition Ceremony in the university’s Lemmond Theater. Following the ceremony, veterans can visit Insalaco Hall where numerous vendors will be available until 1 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.

Additionally, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Mobile Veterans Center will be present in the theater’s parking lot to offer counseling services. Attendees can also dispose of expired or unused medications at a Drug Drop Box sponsored by the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office.

The events are open to all veterans residing in Luzerne County, including both non-combat veterans and those who served during wartime. Veterans may bring their spouse or one guest.

Registration is required for attendance. To RSVP, contact Cabell’s office at 570-675-6000 or Kaufer’s office at 570-283-1001 by Friday, Oct. 25.

Attendees at last year’s event heard remarks from 99-year-old World War II veteran Willis Ide of Sweet Valley, who attended with his wife Lois.
