Rep. Mike Cabell (R-Luzerne) will host a Senior Citizens Expo on Thursday, Aug. 1, in Dallas, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for older residents. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Misericordia University’s Insalaco Hall, located at 301 Lake St.
“My staff and I are looking forward to hosting this popular, free event,” said Cabell. “We encourage seniors and their caregivers to make plans to join us and take advantage of this one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn more about the programs and services available to them in our area.”
The expo will feature numerous exhibitors from nonprofit agencies; local, state, and federal governments; and area businesses providing information on benefits and services available to older residents on various topics such as health care, insurance, nutrition and exercise, fire safety, financial planning, fraud protection, government services, personal safety, among others.
Free health screenings will be provided by local health care providers including blood pressure and hearing tests. Special sessions with experts will cover specific topics such as cyber security, financial scams targeting seniors, elder law issues, and senior driving laws.
Attendees can also participate in a tai chi presentation described as a form of “gentle exercise” that promotes physical and mental well-being.
Additionally, a representative from the Treasury Department will assist seniors in searching for any unclaimed property held by the state.
