Representative Dane Watro from Luzerne/Schuylkill has announced a new legislative proposal that aims to provide tax relief to members of the Pennsylvania National Guard. The bill, once introduced, would exempt the income earned from their service from the state's Personal Income Tax (PIT).

Watro, a U.S. Army veteran, emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of service members, stating, "It is the service and sacrifice of the brave individuals in our armed forces that ensure our country and communities stay safe and prosperous." He further added, “In honor of those sacrifices, it is my hope that we may reward these heroes for their bravery and valor and exempt them from the PIT.”

The proposed tax exemption is not only a gesture of gratitude but also a strategic move to support the National Guard's recruitment efforts during a challenging period for military enlistment. With the PIT rate currently at 3.07%, this initiative could serve as an incentive for individuals considering joining the Guard.

In his efforts to advance this legislation, Watro is reaching out to his colleagues in the House of Representatives for co-sponsorship. This proposal aligns with Watro's dedication to supporting and honoring the service of military personnel.
