Sen. Lisa Baker, Rep. Aaron Kaufer, and Rep. Mike Cabell of Luzerne County have announced the successful procurement of $585,160 in state funding for two vital infrastructure projects in the region.
"Securing this funding is another win for the efforts to upgrade roads throughout the county. The improvements funded here have positive economic, environmental and safety impacts," stated Sen. Lisa Baker.
Lehman Township will benefit from $354,952 for the reconstruction of Market Street, while Exeter Township will receive $230,208 to replace a culvert pipe beneath Hastie Lane.
"Our community deserves safe and efficient infrastructure, and these grants represent our dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all residents," expressed Rep. Aaron Kaufer. "With these investments, we’re not just fixing roads – we’re building a foundation for improvement and prosperity in Luzerne County."
Rep. Mike Cabell highlighted the significance of the Lehman Township project, emphasizing, "The road is in dire need of repair and the township cannot take on the financial responsibility alone. The project is essential in creating a safer access route for both school buses and passenger vehicles while also contributing to the economic viability of the area."
The grants were awarded through the Commonwealth Finance Agency's Multimodal Transportation Fund, aimed at encouraging economic development and ensuring a safe and reliable transportation system for Pennsylvania residents.
The Multimodal Transportation Fund supports the development, rehabilitation, and enhancement of various transportation assets, pedestrian safety, and transit-oriented development initiatives in the state.
This funding marks a significant step towards improving infrastructure and fostering economic growth in Luzerne County.
