Rep. Mike Cabell (R-Luzerne) and Sen. Lynda Culver (R-27) are set to co-host a free license plate replacement event in Salem Township on April 4, 2024. The event, in partnership with the Salem Township Police Department, aims to assist vehicle owners in replacing damaged or illegible license plates.
Cabell expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, "We are happy to provide this free service to simplify the process of obtaining a new license plate from PennDOT." He also extended his gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the Salem Township Police for helping us out.”
According to PennDOT regulations, a license plate is considered illegible if numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet or if the plate shows signs of damage such as blistering, peeling, discoloration, or loss of reflectivity. Vehicle owners interested in participating in the event must register by contacting Cabell’s district office in Sugarloaf Township or Culver’s Luzerne County office.
Upon determination of an illegible plate by a police officer, necessary paperwork will be completed at no cost. A replacement plate is expected to be delivered to the owner's home address within a few weeks.
For more information or registration, interested individuals can reach out to Cabell’s district office at 570-359-2138 or Culver’s office at 570-387-4267.
The event is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Salem Township Municipal Building located at 38 Bomboy Lane.
