Reps. Mike Cabell (R-Luzerne) and Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) along with Sen. Lisa Baker (R-20) have announced that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Mobile Veterans Center (MVC) will be visiting Dallas on Friday, Jan. 19. The MVC provides free outreach and counseling services to veterans and their families.
The Mobile Veterans Center will be stationed in the parking lot of the Dallas Shopping Center, located at 1 Tunkhannock Highway in Dallas, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the third Friday of each month, weather permitting. The center will remain in place until all veterans in attendance have been served.
The legislators expressed their commitment to supporting veterans and their families, stating, "Our veterans have made great sacrifices in their service to the nation. We owe it to them to reach out and make them aware of the many programs and services for which they are eligible. These monthly visits by the MVC in our area will go a long way toward achieving that goal."
During the visit, trained personnel will be available to provide a range of services, including individual, marital, family, and bereavement counseling, medical referrals, assistance in applying for VA benefits, employment guidance and referrals, alcohol and drug assessments and referrals, as well as information and referrals to community resources.
Individual counseling appointments can be scheduled by contacting 570-344-2676.
The Mobile Veterans Center, which measures 38 feet and resembles a supersized recreational vehicle, is equipped with two private counseling rooms, satellite communication and Internet service with VA Medical Centers, video conferencing and tele-health capabilities, as well as wheelchair lift and handicapped accessibility.
The MVC program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs with the aim of reaching veterans in underserved areas. There are currently over 80 MVCs providing services across the country, including several located in Pennsylvania.
The visit schedule of the MVC is subject to change. For more information, individuals can contact Cabell's Dallas office at 570-675-6000.
In conclusion, the Mobile Veterans Center is set to visit Dallas on Jan. 19, offering a range of free outreach and counseling services to veterans and their families. The visit is part of an ongoing effort to ensure that veterans are aware of the programs and services available to them. The Mobile Veterans Center program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs, has been successful in reaching veterans in underserved areas across the country.
