Sen. Lisa Baker (R-20) and Rep. Alec Ryncavage (R-119) have announced that two local projects in Luzerne County will receive a total of $3.9 million in state grants. The grants aim to invest in public health, environmental protection, and job creation capacity.

According to Sen. Baker, the grants will "lessen costs for local taxpayers, help boost compliance with clean water requirements, and pave the way for construction projects and jobs." She emphasizes the importance of water and sewer systems in ensuring safety and opportunity within communities.

Rep. Ryncavage echoes this sentiment, stating that the investment will enhance infrastructure and protect ratepayers' pockets. He sees the grants as crucial for the well-being of the communities involved.

One of the projects receiving funding is the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority (WVSA). They will receive $3,500,000 of COVID-19 ARPA H2O PA funds to install three pump stations and associated force mains in Hanover Township. Andy Reilly, WVSA's chief executive officer, acknowledges the significance of this grant for the southwestern portion of the WVSA's service area. He expresses gratitude for the financing of this vital infrastructure project.

Additionally, Hanover Township will receive $421,934 in COVID-19 ARPA PA Small Water and Sewer funds for the rehabilitation of the Soloman Creek Sanitary Interceptor. Sam Guesto, the manager of Hanover Township, appreciates the award for the rehabilitation project, which serves Hanover Township, Ashley Borough, and Wilkes-Barre Township. He explains that the project ensures wastewater is transported safely to the treatment plant and supports economic development in the region.

The grants are part of the H2O PA program, which provides funding for the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer projects, as well as the repair or rehabilitation of high-hazard unsafe dams. The SWS Program also contributes to small water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure projects.

These grants will have a significant impact on the communities in Luzerne County, improving infrastructure, protecting the environment, and promoting economic development. The investments made in public health and job creation will benefit both residents and businesses in the region.
