Rep. Alec Ryncavage of Luzerne County has announced that $428,590.62 in grant funding will be allocated to support 30 local fire and emergency medical services (EMS) companies. These funds are awarded in recognition of the essential services first responders provide to the community.
"I'm thankful so many local fire and EMS companies were awarded these highly competitive funds," stated Ryncavage. He emphasized the vital role these grants play in assisting first responders with their crucial and hazardous duties, saying, "Our dedicated first responders do an amazing job protecting lives and property in our communities, and these grants will help our brave first responders with their critically important and dangerous jobs."
The organizations awarded include firms from various regions, notably those in Ashley, Edwardsville, Glen Lyon, Hanover Township, Larksville, Mountain Top, Nanticoke, Plymouth, and Warrior Run. Specific allocations range from $10,000 to more than $26,000, based on the needs and project proposals of each company.
Eligible projects and programs cover a range of improvements, including facility upgrades, equipment purchases, debt reduction, and initiatives for training, certification, education, and public outreach. Recruitment and retention efforts are also supported through these funds. Additionally, companies could apply for construction savings accounts for new facility construction.
The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency oversees the administration of this program, with the application process managed by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. Funding is contingent on recipients filing their grant agreements with the office.
The announcement reflects ongoing efforts to enhance and support local emergency response capabilities in the region.
