Rep. Alec Ryncavage is organizing a Youth Hunter Safety Course on March 9 at the Ashley Borough Building. The event aims to educate young participants about hunting safety and skills from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Ryncavage highlights the significance of such courses, stating, "As a result of these courses, the experiences out in the field aren't just about safety and skills; they're about sharing moments, stories and laughter – just like I did with my dad when I was 12 years old." He emphasizes the importance of providing opportunities for youth to connect with nature, especially in today's digital environment. "In today's digital age, it's crucial to provide opportunities for our youth to connect with nature, learn timeless traditions and cultivate a sense of responsibility. Through initiatives like our Youth Hunter Safety Course, we're not just teaching skills – we're fostering a legacy of stewardship and respect for our natural world," Ryncavage added.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission mandates that all first-time hunters and trappers complete the Basic Hunter-Trapper Education course to obtain a hunting or trapping license in the state. Participants of the event must be at least 11 years old and will be educated on ethics, responsible hunting behavior, firearm safety, wildlife conservation, hunting techniques, and outdoor preparedness. The six-hour class concludes with a certification exam.
