Senator Lisa Baker and Representatives Mike Cabell, Aaron Kaufer, and Alec Ryncavage have announced the allocation of over $2 million in grants for Luzerne County. The funding comes from Local Share Account (LSA) grants and Public School Facility Improvement grants provided by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
Baker praised local officials for their efforts in submitting projects that aim to enhance community livability. "These are locally determined priorities that help to make our communities more livable and enjoyable," she stated.
Cabell highlighted the importance of these funds for smaller municipalities with limited budgets. He expressed satisfaction with specific projects like Wycallis school's new roof, which aims to provide a safe learning environment. "I’m particularly pleased that Wycallis school will get a new roof and ensure that our children can continue to learn in a safe, comfortable environment," he noted.
The municipalities receiving LSA funding include:
- Dallas Area Municipal Authority: $185,000 for sewer system maintenance equipment.
- Dallas Township: $200,000 for police station construction.

Kaufer emphasized the significance of these projects in enhancing safety both within schools and throughout the community. "These projects will help to keep our children safe and secure at school and increase public safety around our community," he remarked.
Ryncavage described this announcement as an important step forward in completing existing projects like Newport Township Streetscape while initiating new ones such as Larksville Veteran’s Memorial Park. "We're not just completing existing efforts but also building a foundation for a brighter future in our communities," he said.
