KINGS'S COLLEGE: Kearney & Company Makes Commitment to King’s College’s Mcgowan School of Business

Startup business and marketing tips

King's College issued the following announcement on Sept. 16.

Kearney & Company (“Kearney”), led by founder and King’s College alumnus Ed Kearney ’74, and the Kearney family have committed $1,000,000 to support King’s. Longtime partners, Kearney annually recruits King’s students for internships and jobs following graduation.

This extraordinary gift will support King’s and its students in the William G. McGowan School of Business in impactful ways. Specifically, the Kearney gift will provide two (2) full-tuition scholarships annually for accounting majors (one for a junior, which includes a summer internship following their junior year, and one for a senior) and will name the College’s well-respected Accounting Department as the Kearney & Company Department of Accounting.

“We are extraordinarily grateful for the Kearney family’s generous support of our students and our school,” explained King’s president, Rev. John J. Ryan, C.S.C. “Ed, Anne, and all of the Kearney family have been wonderful investors in and supporters of our students for many years. This incredible commitment will improve the King’s experience for our students in the McGowan School of Business and will publicly enhance the special relationship that King’s enjoys with Kearney & Company and the Kearney family.”

Ed Kearney remarked “King’s gave me an opportunity to get a degree in Accounting. My wife and I are both from Wyoming Valley, and we have never forgotten where we came from. It is an honor to give back to the King’s Community and enable others to have the same opportunity given to me.”

Before this commitment, Kearney had funded four full scholarships (one annually) for King’s accounting majors in recent years, and it has made an enormous impact on these young Monarchs’ lives. “Being a Kearney & Company Scholarship recipient changed my life,” shared Mark Michno ’18, an early recipient who was financially independent with no family support in college, and who has gone on to a successful business career since graduation. Michno explained that “stand-up people like the Kearneys are what make King’s a truly special college.”

Now, two King’s students will benefit each year. One of those new scholarship recipients, Maribel Vergara ‘21, wrote to the Kearney family “[t]his award is extremely meaningful, not only financially, but emotionally …. As the recipient of this remarkable opportunity, I assure you that I will not only make my daughter, my mother, and my family proud, but you as well.”

Dr. Barry Williams, Dean of the McGowan School of Business and former chair of the Accounting Department, is thrilled with Kearney’s generous commitment to King’s. Dean Williams noted the strong relationship between Kearney and King’s, explaining that it is “an honor that Kearney & Company has been a longtime partner with the McGowan School of Business and King’s College in the fulfillment of our shared commitment to educating both the hearts and minds of our students.”
