State funding exceeding $1.75 million has been allocated to communities within Pennsylvania’s 20th Senatorial District, according to a recent announcement by Sen. Lisa Baker and Reps. Jonathan Fritz and Jeff Olsommer. The financial support comes from the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) fund.
The PHARE fund is bolstered by resources from the Realty Transfer Tax and Marcellus Shale impact fees, aimed at addressing essential housing needs such as critical repairs, homelessness prevention, housing rehabilitation, transitional housing, and homeowner assistance programs in Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties.
Senator Baker remarked on the strategic nature of this funding: “This funding represents a thoughtful, strategic approach to addressing housing insecurity and improving quality of life.” She highlighted its role in assisting seniors and families facing homelessness while supporting recovery efforts for those in need.
Representative Fritz emphasized the importance of these funds for enhancing community living conditions: “The central focus of government is improving quality of life for constituents, especially the elderly.” He underscored their necessity in ensuring that all residents can live comfortably with peace of mind.
Rep. Olsommer pointed out the broader impact on community stability: “This funding is a vital assistance toward expanding affordable housing and preventing homelessness.” He stressed its significance in helping families maintain their homes.
Projects supported by this program are administered by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency. Funding sources include not only local taxes but also contributions from national entities like the National Housing Trust Fund.
